As editor of the Dover Express and East Kent News, and Librarian to Dover Corporation, Bavington Jones was in a good position to research events in the previous 50 years since the paper was first published (it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2008).

He could also call on the research he had already done for his previous book, 'Dover - A Perambulation of the Town, Port and Fortress', published in the previous year.

This is a rare book, being originally published in paperback (price sixpence) 100 years ago. Dover Public Library has one hard-bound copy in their Local Studies collection and a (somewhat tatty) office copy.
