Here are some tournament highlights:

• 1990 - This is the furthest advancement in WHS field hockey history. The Rangers won the Central Massachusetts District Championship and advanced by beating Smith Academy in the snow on grass at Smith College. They then lost to Walpole in the State Finals. The Rebels, or Porkers as the field hockey team is known, scored with about 50 seconds remaining in the second OT. Thus, the Rangers narrowly missed sending the game to strokes where Coach Debish liked her chances with talented senior Kim Yankee in goal.
  
  
• 1991 - WHS won their second consecutive District title. With star senior Jamie Irwin nursing a sprained ankle, they were unable to get past Southwick and return to the Finals.
  
  
• 1996 - WHS came on strong at the end of the season to qualify as the #9-seed in Districts. They beat #8-seed North Middlesex under the lights, 2-1, on goals by senior Amanda Boyce and sophomore Haley Thompson just as regulation time was expiring. This gave them the priviledge of travelling to #1-seed Notre Dame Academy. Senior Emily Quimby scored a "moral victory" in a 5-1 loss. (Two very impressive statistics emerged after this game. Not until 10/17/2001, in the 4-2 loss at Gardner, a streak of 88 games and almost five years, did anyone score more than two goals against the Rangers, and not until 10/28/1999, in the 2-0 loss again at Gardner, a streak of 52 games and almost three years, did the Rangers trail by more than one goal at any time!) NDA goalie Kathleen Madhaus, who had her own fan club and went on to Northeastern University on full scholarship, had given up something like four goals all season. In addition to Madhaus, at least four Rebels went on to play Division I college field hockey.
  
  
• 1997 - WHS won their league championship for the first time in eight years, earning the #2 seed. On a raw day, they dispatched Burncoat 3-1 in the first round. The Rangers then faced the task of defeating Nashoba and sweeper "Boy Will" a third time in the season. Junior Haley Thompson again provided the heroics, much to the delight of the throngs on Ruggles Street, 1-0 in OT. But Quabbin denied the Rangers an NDA rematch by beating WHS in the semis under the lights at Gardner. Quabbin led 1-0 at halftime. WHS apparently tied the game with nine minutes left in the second half, but the goal was disallowed for "obstructing the goalie." The Rangers overcame this as senior Alison Deysher tied the score with 1:32 remaining in regulation. However, they were unable to carry the momentum into OT and Quabbin scored the game winner in the early minutes to win 2-1.
  
  
• 1998 - Senior Haley Thompson, on track to challenge Courtney McLean's 66-point career scoring record, having set the single-season scoring record of 22 points in her junior year, hurt her knee in pre-season, ending her career. WHS, the #4-seed, dropped a heartbreaker to #13-seed Holy Name, 2-1 in triple OT in the first round of Districts.
  
  
• 1999 - WHS earned the #3 seed and defeated Tantasqua 3-1 in the first round. Quabbin again blocked the door, though, travelling to Westborough and beating the Rangers 1-0.
  
  
• 2000 - WHS lost 12 seniors to graduation but captured a share of the MidWach B crown and the #4 seed. They could not reverse recent tournament bad fortune, however, losing to #13-seed Oakmont in the first round, 2-1 in OT, and marking the fourth consecutive year the Rangers fell to a lower seed in Districts.
