DahnBaeGong

In the ready pose for DahnBaeGong,
  • one stands as upright as possible without tensing the shoulders;
  • lightly clenched fists are held palms-up at either hip;
  • a 45 angle downward gaze is maintained;
  • the heels are slowly lifted to a 45 degree angle with the floor.

(1) Infinity is endlessness, limitlessness, boundlessness.
  • The arms are slowly raised to shoulder height and aligned as perfectly as possible with the horizontal shoulder line.
    (2) The great absolute in oriental philosophy (the cosmic entity; TaiChi) arises from the infinity of the universe.
  • The left hand moves upward and the right hand downward in a clockwise circle, each hand passing eventually across the chest.
  • (3) Yang (positive energy) and Eum (negative energy) are generated in the movement of the cosmic entity.
  • The right hand rests at eye height, fingertips leveled upward and palm perpendicular to the floor, wrist held at a 45 degree forward angle.
  • The left hand rests palm-down in front of the lower abdomen; the left wrist is flexed to a 90 degree angle, so the left palm makes a 45 degree angle with the floor.
  • The waist should not need to bend as one kneels slowly to the ground.
    (4) All things come into existence through the circulation of Eum and Yang
  • The left hand moves along the bottom of the right forearm.
  • When the left wrist reaches the right wrist, the fingertips circle down and around until the left wrist is above the right with the palms open upward.
    (5) When the human mind opens to take in the heavens and the Earth...
  • The arms spread to each side; the palms are flattened outward in either direction; as one bows, the palms and forehead touch the ground simultaneously.
    (6) ...the three principal components of the cosmos (heavens, Earth, and human) are united within the microcosm that is a human being.
  • The shoulders are slowly raised as one returns to an upright kneeling posture, and the arms perform the circling motion as in (1) and (2).
  • When the right hand has returned to eye height, the left to the lower abdomen, one slowly stands upright, proceeding then to repeat (3) through (6) and so on.
