Kite's Weekly ReviewAs always,"At a Glance" is just a basic skim of the character, nothing more. Name: X Creator: Sac Kit: None Team: The Fallen Sex: Male Strength: Superior Agility: Standard Body: Weak Mind: Standard Immunity: Detective Detective: Standard Teleportation: Standard Martial Arts: Superior Invisibility: Supreme Closed Mind: Standard A lot of low level powers here, but the premise seems rather simple from at a glance. He seems like the "You won't find him, he'll find you" type of guy. You can't see him, you can't track him, you can't know anything about him, he just is. Anyone who's character is based on the ability to hunt someone down will have real problems with this guy. As will anyone, really, what with his ability to teleport and be invisible, you won't see him, he just dodges out of the way. Your best chance with this guy is a giant, all-out area filling attack. That might be your only way to hit him. For good powers that will hold up will under pressure, 8/10 Since nothing is known about the character, and apparently it is impossible TO know X, everything about him is written from the perspective of someone else. All that anyone knows about him is that he smokes. The personalities of those writing seem pretty well oriented, the only thing that really seems strange are the "?"'s scattered about. Though I imagine this most likely is a representation of indecipherable dialogue, it's still strange to see them scattered about like that in the origin. The characters are well written though, so it's easy to forgive. For a great concept, and a unique writing style 7/10 The Powers Immunity: Detective Immunity - Standard The records on this guy are pretty clean. He doesn't leave anything behind that could possibly allow you to trace him. Any possible traces are eliminated. The character is a mystery. Possibly the best follow-through on an ambiguous character I've read so far. Detective Detective: Standard Somehow, X seems to know everything. He doesn't really anticipate what the enemy may or may not do, but if a trap is layed for him, he'll be sure to avoid it. Somehow, standard level seems a bit low for this type of character, Superior or even Supreme may have been a better suit. Movement Unseen... Teleportation: Standard Even the SLJ are wary of this guy. X doesn't seem to really cause so much trouble, maybe more or less aids it. Anyone trying to track X will be in for a let down, as suddenly he'll just no longer be there. That or he'll just suddenly appear where he needs to be. Makes it hard to follow him Assassination Techniques Martial Arts - Superior So, he's a trained assassin. He's also very good at it. Each job is done with swift precision. Anyone who stands in his way is also eliminated. Makes for a very, very scary day if you're an enemy of The Fallen Undetected, Unknown Invisibility - Supreme Seems he has the ability to avoid even the best of security. Though, his weakness often shows him out. The only way to truly track him is to follow the puffs of smoke he leaves in his wake. Of course, I imagine if he really didn't want to be seen, he wouldn't. Though he smokes like a chimney, he doesn't strike me as being careless. Closed Mind Closed Mind - Standard Another power that seems a little underpowered, or at least the description seems to define something a big bigger. Apparently his mind caused some mentalist to go crazy. He babbled for about ten minutes before X put him out of his misery. It couldn't have been all that great of a mentalist if he was confused by a standard closed mind... The writing is absolutely top notch. The power scheme is great, giving him both a great offense and defense to attack. But, a constant thing that bothered me was that sometimes the powers seemed to define something stronger than it really was. The aid of a Kit could have really aided if he had added it to Closed Mind and Detective. For great writings and powers, but a bit larger than life writing, 7/10 Overall The character is great. Well written individual characters that you thoroughly believe, great writing, and a great power scheme. I said it in the power description though and I'll say it again, the descriptions seem a bit larger than life, making him out to be something indestructible, while keeping the power levels at a rather low level in both his detective and closed mind description. It's easily forgivable though, because this character is truly fantastic. It could possibly make the Hall of Fame, though I personally doubt it'll make the Main Event... Overall: 8/10 Previous Reviews |
