by MrKite But, it always seems to me like the old fpl vets seem to forget what it's like to be new, to see the character design and try to construct their first character. Taking a look for your first time at the elaborate character developer makes one feel rather small. Sometimes these characters get smacked, with no great reason given, leaving the character's creator confused and disappointed. Even though the admins always have a reason, well usually... Possibly the best way I've seen so far to figure your way around the fpl is to check out the chat room, get to know some people, and don't be ashamed to ask for advice. Not only do you make a name for yourself amongst the vets, but you get a lot of great advice to make better characters. And, it is true that if you haven't made a name for yourself in the fpl even the best of characters will flop. The fact that there's alot of biased voting can't be denied, it's human nature, whether it be sub-conscious or not. Returning to my point. Making a name for yourself is a difficult process. It takes months and several good characters to become truly recognized. But, if you get killed, don't pitch a fit. Go back and make another. Make sure to put a good portion of time aside for this, good characters take time. Make sure that you leave no stone un-turned, the longer the description, as long as it isn't insane, the better. Giving up or pitching a fit will only make things worse. Far worse. Checking out the hall of fame is also a great way to get a feel for the fpl. Each one shows what a great character is made up of. And, will give you an idea of what your character should look like. Also, alot of characters, like The COMING, are based off of running gags. Knowing your characters always helps. I wouldn't go too far into, just take a look and see what you like. Of course, sometimes you get a newbie or two with no true imagination or individuality. Since the internet is open to anyone, anyone may participate. It used to be that poorly done characters would never be allowed in, but times change, the fpl is constantly making small changes. So god smacks (I still prefer the term god votes, but c'est la vie) will still be far more common amongst the newer population. Sometimes you just need a little tough love. Previous Rants |
