Forward: There are several things to take into consideration before you read these FAs, and before you cast your vote. Above all I'd like to implore you to vote with your heart, not with your head in this most important of Contests. Here are a few reasons why: 1) Older characters simply weren't created with the same system used for characters today. We get a LOT more points now, plus upgrades, plus a more lenient Kit system. A straight powers comparison is almost always a wash or a victory for the new guy. Old and new fighters can't and shouldn't be compared along these terms. 2) Older characters have signficantly less "beef" for one very good reason: that was the standard back then. Also, powers were interpreted differently. Be careful before you assume that an HoFer doesn't make sense. They must've to some people, right? 3) In essence you're not only voting for "who would win this fight," you're voting for which character you want to represent the FPL (that includes you). The CoC champ is usually the first character sheet most newbies read when they're researching greatness. To paraphrase Q, in a way the CoC champ is like the FPL's ambassador to the masses. Choose wisely, and remember: these are cursory glimpses into a complex world through a shattered eyepiece. What goes on in your mind's eye is what truly matters. Besides, I suck at FAs. In any case, have fun! Well, here they are, for better or worse, hopefully a little more timely than last time. I think once we have access to matches (they'll be planned rather than random after this round), things should go smoother. Much thanks to Sir Christopher, Poe, DragoonT, Austin, and Graves for helping out with this run. Bliztrieg Vs DoD A Nazi fighting... a paperweight(...OF DEATH!!) Sigh, only in the AoC. With ultimate agilty, acrobat, and super speed Blitzkrieg could take out pretty much any physical fighter in the CoC... Too bad that isn't going to do much for him against's DoD's two auto-hit mental attacks. So unless he can run in his sleep, Blitz goes beddy-bye giving DoD the chance to use disintegration to finish him off. Advantage: Dodecahedron Hand of Justice vs. Maggels This is a pretty close fight, with each fighter being pretty solid up close, both being equally speedy (superior agil + standard SS), more or less equally stealthy (blending), with Sam beating the lizard girl in smarts and Maggels edging him out in mobility. It's Maggels' Spider Climbing that gives her her first edge in this fight, Sam just can't keep up, being bogged down in the swamps. While Sam might be able to spot Maggels more quickly than vice versa, his second weakness comes in the fact that he doesn't have any ranged attacks. With the range and mobility to stay out of Sam's way, Maggels charts up another victory in this CoC matchup. Sophia DiMedici vs Mikoto Going by powers, what this comes down to is whether or not Sophia's counter attack can tag Mikoto. When it comes to getting out of the way, she's brilliant. But I can't see her avoiding Mikoto's bloody nasty ultimate teleport and telekinesis combination for very long. And what's more, the teleport aspect very effectively bypasses defenses, taking the attack directly inside the opponent, which means Mikoto only need to tag Sophia with one hit to put her down. On the other side of things, Sophia has standard danger sense, supreme tactician, supreme super speed, and supreme telepathy all working together, making Mikoto an open book. But, turning around again, none of these can attack directly, although Sophia could weave some chaos in Mikoto's mind. Based on powers, that is the one real kicker. What can Sophia do to Mikoto? Some strong mental disturbance, true, but nothing extreme. What Mikoto can do to Sophia is massive, massive quantities of damage. The powers favor Mikoto. But I give this match to Sophia. Mikoto's powers are marvelously destructive, but Sophia's are pure elegance. Mikoto's writing is utilitarian, even awkward in places. Sophia is one of Landon's best creations, by turns beautiful and terrifying. To read her character sheet is to feel ice move up your spine. Sophia, plainly and simply, wins on style and belief. She's truly terrible, and you and I both know in our hearts that she will find a way to do terrible things to anyone she encounters. I.V.S.II vs. Sebastian Dover IVSII's loss of Super Speed due to Sebastian's Immunity hurts him quite a bit in this matchup: Sebastian will get the first swing, hit or miss, and he's pretty damn accurate. Of course, if he misses for whatever reason, then I have to give the advantage to IVSII. InverShryke will teleport directly into melee range, and while Sebastian is no slouch with the moves, IVSII's energy body is going to make melee combat a painful thing for the assassin. Other factors - perhaps even faster than the speed of Sebastian's guns is the speed of thought. IVSII has Tactician, Telepathy, and an intelligence advantage in his corner, as well as the ability to morph his body into the desired shape. It wouldn't be out of the question to see him find a way around getting pegged in that first shot. Also, the Wall of Carnage has been known to be an unfriendly place. If any physically damaging hazards or traps effects either fighter, InverShryke is more likely to be able to shrug it off. Of course, having said all that, Sebastian bought Ultimate Marksman for a reason. Still, I say this fight could be a close one. Hitokiri vs Chakos I would've killed to see this match with a Scenario..Really. Even with his EA Shut down, Chakos is Still in the running. It all hinges on wether or not Chakos lucky allows him to sense Hitokiri's First attack. If he does, I give it to Chakos. It's like one of those Ninja Assasinations. The Suspect walks along, unsuspecting while the Ninja draws closer. And then in One Fell SWOOP...SLASH! A moment of Tension, and then either the Victim Collapses or the Ninja Does. THAT is how this Match is gonna go. Either Way in my Opinion Fail vs Rez Fail is going to live up to his name this round. The problem is the Void is a part of reality, and as well all know Rez can completely Hack Reality at his will. Anything Fail tries to change through magic, Rez can simply alter the variables right back to their original values. Crap, he'll know how to alter them even before they're changed, thanks to observing the chronal code with much better accuracy than Fail's intuition. If Fail tries to suck up any attacks with the Void... ever seen one of those cartoon characters trying to dive into a shotglass? Fail is the shotglass, and Rez's reality-hacking is the hapless cartoon guy. Er, something like that. Anyway, it ain't gonna be pretty. The best part of this fight, though, will be finally seeing that mutant squid-faced freak get shut up for once! "Power of the Void" this and "there is no hope" that -- did the Fallen really have to get an enforcer that talks so bloody much!? As if Ringnifti wasn't annoying enough... "I welcome you to the Void." "Let's see how much fun that Void is from the center of the planet, psycho lamer." *tap tap tap* "Blarg! I am dead!" "Heheh, sucker." - by Sir Christopher T's Fruit Stand vs the Semi Rational Penguin Has the Penguin decided to look for Fruit Juice instead of a Martini? Does anyone even care about that quip? Either way, this is looking to be one heck of a match. T is the type of person that Blasts first and asks questions later, and he has the Firepower to back him up. However, although he has a Monstrous Offense and a Powerful Defense, he is GREATLY hindered by the Terrain, as he won't know WHERE the Penguin is. Of course, he'll probibly just level the place looking for the Penguin then, but Even when he DOES find it he has to worry about the Penguins superior Mobility AND Weather Creation. All in all, I think the Fruit Stand is just outclassed here. All the Penguin needs to do is get close to Paralyze it(Which shoulden't be that much of a Problem) and then it's Weather Control can just batter it down to Splinters. Lee the Scruffy Wizard vs. Dragoon T Lee's hard to FA for because his powers are more abstract than most fighters. If anything, T is going to find him more confusing and thus harder to defeat than a straight melee fighter. It all comes down to whether Lee's Polymorph/Animation combo is going to be able to catch T and take hold. Once in the grips of Lee's crafty mind, any number of things could happen to T, none of them pleasant sounding. Since Lee's Super Speed is one level higher than T's, he should get first blow provided he sees T first. With Hyper Senses and Danger Sense more focused detection powers nearly equalling Lee's High levelTactician and Higher Mind stat, it's not clear who would find who first. Of course, if Lee detects T first and misses, he has a whole slew of mental attacks and physical ones to deal with for which he has inadequate defense. So, to close to call. UV Light Warriors vs. Ringnifti Unless Ring's plans are foiled by her bumbling-ness, Speck should be her key to winning this matchup. Teleportation might be more a curse than a blessing in the Hall of Mirrors, but I'd venture to say that the CHAOS crew might be a little more confused as to what's actually going on initially, given their poor mind stat, until Detective gives them the level map.once that happens it's anybody's ballgame, until Speck's paralyzing powers kick in. I give the UV boys an outside chance if their strategy guide actually gives them a plan good enough to get the drop on Ring with NUKE or XCLB. Pajama Pockets vs. Sailor Archer Oh, man, say it ain't so. These two IC friends are gonna have to duke it out in the CoC... good thing this is PPockets v 2.0 (or was that 3.0). Maybe she doesn't know Elwin. Anyway, the way I see it, this round most likely goes to whoever can find the other first, with a slight edge to Pockets with better reaction time. Elwin has great physical evasive skills, but no defense against those auto-hitting Dreamtime Illusions. If Elwin can find Pockets first, she'll have a slight edge but even so, it's hard to tag a girl who has higher agil than you and a decent level of acrobat, swordmaster in melee range or no. Throw Lucky into the mix and I give this fight narrowly to Pockets, although it could go either way. Let's hope there's not too much carnage either way. Zalrafel vs. Holli & Sammy What is it with heavenly hosts and Iron Will? Guess its hard to keep an angel down, fallen or otherwise. Well, Zalrafel does have enough attacks that, if he can get a good couple strikes in, he might be able to take out more than one Iron Will. Unfortunately, although Sephi...er, Zal has a slight mind edge, what's really hurting him is his lack of mobility in the rocky terrain. Holli & Sammy are going to determine when and how combat occurs with Zalrafel. Although their Standard Strength attack can't do anything but irk Zal, if they can get him to connect once, their Counter Attacks will almost surely win the fight. Holli & Sammy win the fight Powers and Writing Wise. Concept wise... eh, more of a draw. We've seen plenty of Fallen Angel badasses in the FPL, but Zalrafel was one of the first if memory serves. Joe Bigg Guns vs Stumpbot Ah! Mexican Standoff! I hate to say this, but this match is gonna be short. Both are gonna come out Blasting, but Joe CANNOT Take what he can Dish out, while Stumpbot can. Not mention that Joe is taking Double Damage from those Boom Balls! The Match is Short, Fast, Explosive, and Very Messy as Joe is splattered from the Onset. Mr. Hero vs Sphere The key here is time. At the outset of the battle, between Mr. Hero's Danger Sense, Environmental Awareness, Illusion Creation, and Iron Will, he should be able to take advantage of the terrain to avoid or suffer through Sphere's attacks long enough to mount an offense. Unfortunately for Mr. Hero, his offense doesn't quite match his defense. A stronger weapon, or a skill to improve the number of times he hits, would put the odds in Mr. Hero's favor, but as it stands, over time Sphere's power will build up to full potential, at which point he'll simply overpower Hero with a triple assault of Energy Sheath, Energy Body, and Elongation. Without a movement power, Mr. Hero's chances are slim to none as the day wears on. Saint of Pizza Delivery vs Vegas Hate to say it, but the Saint is completly and utterly blown away by Vegas. Vegas has SOOO Many options available to him. His Teleport and Lucky help insure that the Saint will never get close enough to Ram him with the Van or Bop him with a Pizza Box, and because the Saint HAS to get at least alittle close to hit him with those Boxes Vegas is just gonna blast away with his Shotgun. The Ultimate Luck insure that Vegas will have the Upper Hand And the Danger Sense insures his superior evasion. HOWEVER, Vegas had better watch out, 'cause he's vulnerale to the Double Damage on the Pizza Boxes. If he DOES Get Nailed, He's going DOWN with one Hit. Possible Blow out for Vegas..if his Luck holds out ^_~ Devyn vs Jordan We had a HUGE Disccusion in Chat over this match. The way -I- See it, Devyn has the advantage. Jordan Relys HEAVILY on keeping her Opponent at a Distance, and while her Weapons Creation works both In close and Far Away, she lacks an appropriate skill to really dominte with it in close. Devyn, on the other hand, EXCELS in Ranged Combat Evasion. With his Better Agilty and EA, not to mention his Tactician, he'll have no trouble dodging what Jordan dishes out. Speaking of Tactician: Although Jordan DOES have the Mind Stat Advantage, Devyn has Weather Creation backing up his. Meaning: While Jordan is stuck using what's available to her advantage, Devyn can CREATE his own. Wait you say: Their in a Desert! To that I say: Sandstorms make EXCELLENT Ambush Cover! Quickie Dissenting opinion: I feel the first FAer has underestimated Jordan's Tactician + WC. This, coupled with her godlike intellect, should give her the ability to summon a weapon suited to any terrain and foe. There's nothing to obscure the visibility of things, so Jordan should be able to analyze and attempt to counter her foe well before he closes the gap to melee range. Her marksman is well matched against his agility. The match is close but I don't think it will come down to melee range. Even if it does, Jordan has the defenses to survive at least one hit from Devyn's dark powers, whereas the converse isn't true. Lincoln Matthews Vs Saiyan Chick Tomata "Okay kids... pop math quiz time. Stove this problem, 'Mentalist + Stupid Martial-Arts Bimbo in a Battle Bikini" You have one minute, please turn your papers face down when you're done, thank you. Advantage: Lincoln Matthews" Fastest Pussycat -vs.- Scrapyard Angel Hmm, Low Grav Arena + Someone who's already damn fast = major problems for the non speedster. SA's Phasing can't quite deal with Pussycat's Vibration, and Pussycat should be able to act first given higher agility and a hefty dose of super speed. The only wrench on the works is that SA might start out 20 feet off the ground. If that's the case, Pussycat won't be able to run to her foe, and she'll get creamed by Illusions, no matter how fast she is. The Otakalypse -vs.- Thanatopsis Well, Fury has Closed Mind, but it might not be enough to save her. She has to depend on her Lucky + CM to hold out against Thana's Illusory attacks long enough for her weapons to wear through Thana's Phased form. Since Thana's mode of travel is faster than the Otakalypse's, though, she'll have a hard time tagging Thana with anything but her Gatling guns, which will take a long time to do anything to Ultimate level Phasing. Long, drawn out match, but in the end, I have to give it to Thana, unless she somehow gets cornered by the Otakalypse. Graves vs Quietus We don't know who's going to win. We don't know what's going to be left when they're done. We only know one thing for sure: THIS MATCH SHOULDA HAD A SCENARIO, GODDAMN IT! Come with me for a moment and curse the brilliant and undoubtedly self-aware random fight generator for its ability to pick up perfect matches with alarming regularity. Yes, I feel sure that one day it will take over the world and eliminate us humans in a Terminator-esque scenario. Just you wait and see. Well, since these two got slightly gypped, I'm going to write my own mini-scenario. Looking at the two characters, you know that villain or not they're spoiling with each other for a fight. Quietus wants to destroy the universe. Mr. Graves wants to rule it. Quietus wants nothing, Mr. Graves wants everything. Mr. Graves wasn't sure if Quietus was gone for good, but wherever he was, he wasn't looking like a major threat. That was then, but now the dead are returning, the heroes and villains are gathered together, and it's clear that something bad is going down in the nexus. Mr. Graves knows two things. Whatever it is, he wants a piece of it (okay, he wants ALL of it). And if Quietus gets his way, there won't be anything left at all. And thus the two titans clash. Conceptually, I think Mr. Graves and Quietus are the closest thing the FPL has to Superman versus Batman. Which one is more "you?" Well, for me, Mr. Graves is the one who takes this match home. In fact, as evil and awesome as Quietus is, Mr. Graves has all the right moves, all the right tricks, and the sheer style it takes to bring down the ultimate evil and bring him down hard. It's hard to compare styles on the older sheets, but Mr. Graves has really got a kick. He's just pure outrageously evil, but not 100% evil like the void, just the regular human evil. And even more, if you had to pick one person to be in charge over the other, you'd go with Mr. Graves. Don't ask me to explain more than that, because I gotta wrap this up with a look at the powers. Quietus has two rather large problems. One is called "Shinigami no Ken" and the other (say it with me) "Katoblepas." Quietus has a weak body, and all his powers require him to be able to speak. Graves has superior paralysis, which acts directly on the body stat, which means that Quietus can't move and therefore can't speak. Quietus also has no defenses. Mr. Graves has supreme disintegration. Now, just assuming Quietus can somehow get in a few attacks before turning into a statue, he still has to deal with Mr. Graves teleportation abilities. In short, Quietus has stepped in it, this time, and deep. Mr. Graves sends Quietus back to the void direct, without passing Go. Deadman Striding vs. Glaucon and the Void: Mackie's Luck is stretched pretty thin on this one. Pretty much his only chance is somehow getting close enough to use Alex to drain out Glaucon. The trick will be getting past Ultimate Gravity AND Ultimate Telekinesis, and beyond that Glaucon has Flight to keep Deadman from reaching him. Auto-Hitting paralysis could stop Mackie dead in his tracks, while Glaucon's Iron Will matches McHeath's on the defensive side of things. Mackie's Iron Will, Healing, and Luck might help him hold out for a while, but in the end, the relentless force of the Void will take him down. TheDeadMan inDean'sFridge -vs.- Jim the Vagrant To be honest this match confuses me. Although Emotion Control being on the fritz makes sense (how do you convince a dead man to pet a kitty?) I sorta fail to see what Mittens can do to the Samurai. I think I'll just throw my hands up in confusion and call it a night. Maybe Jim will move in with the Deadmen. Sorry, Dean. Page vs Stella Aurorae This one is just a severely bad break for Page. Normally Stella would be the kind of character that Page excels at taking apart a bit at a time. When it comes to dealing with fairly specialized characters, Page is in her element. Unfortunately Stella has an ultimate mental defense, which really crushes Page's two potential forms of attack. Stylistically, Page dominates Stella. She's engaging, charming, and of course totally evil. Stella, by comparison, is nicely composed, but not remarkable. Well written, but without the same spark you might say as Page. However Stella has a massive amount of development in character (Apocalypse? What Apocalypse?). That's like having a 400 page character sheet, and it's even more than that. Developing a character to the extent and with the skill that Darth_Maxx did with Stella (and a number of others) in character is a greater investment on both the part of the creator and on behalf of the rest of us who play the game. We find (or we should find) more respect for a person who is able to utilize the system not just to creator a combo and a character, but to make that character almost real. For that alone, Stella would have the edge in this match, but she additionally can generate attacks of such psychotic power that even Page's formidable defenses would be overwhelmed eventually. Page is an excellent character. The concept is great, the writing is great, the powers are great. But Stella is simply something a bit more. Whisper -vs.- Arissa Mishima Whisper's damn hard to hit, but God alone knows what kinda things are going on in that mind of Arissa's. Without her considerable mental faculties, I'd give this match in about a second and a half to Whisper, but... as it is, too hard to say. Arissa does have a lot to work with: the bystanders, Supreme Gravity that'll do double damage to Whisper, and Telekinesis to "alter" things slightly. Then again, Whisper is going to almost assuredly act (if not think/plot) first, so the outcome is as always uncertain. If Arissa can hatch a plan before Whisper's songblade separates her head from her neck, then she'll probably walk away with the victory. Master Chin vs. Death-In-A-Box: In an open desert or steel cage, Chin's agility and Martial Arts skill would give him a good shot at averting decapitation. In the Ancient Forest, however, Death-In-A-Box can work the Reduced Visibility, Abundant Cover, and Multiple Levels to his advantage. Chin may be able to shrug off the Paranoia for a while, but DiaB's Tactical skills and Blending powers will put him in just the right position to hide... and with X-Ray Vision to see Chin ahead of time, one Super Speedy *SWISH* and Chin will be short one key ingredient: his own head.
