Life, Death, and Botches!A Rant by ThreeDark on the Subject of Twinkery and Victimization in Chat RP.There is nothing more annoying than a Newbie bringing in a Character from something someone has never heard of into an RP room and immediately attempting a takeover Raid. Why, might you ask? It breeds a type of chaos that is seductive and counterproductive the (if any or only a small thing going between two people) story. Twinkery. Storysbane. Everyone knows what it is. Most likely everyone has done it in some way or fashion. Especially those of us who chat. “What?! How Dare you make that accusation!” Bah on you. Think about it. When was the last time you actually played along with somebody hitting you with a ‘rather large trout’? Exactly. Albeit when I say Twinkery I usually do mean the much larger things like ignoring point blank type 10 Nuclear blasts and killing off an entire room with a Fireball of Death and the like. There are also much more subtle forms of twinkery… such as the Summoner. He who calls forth his most honored and respected superhero, or villain idols and has them fight for him… and says there’s no way they could be beat by such futile efforts. But this is usualy talking about people who have never… or rarely ever actually RPed online before. Some Twinkery is needed, such as Ops keeping the respect they deserve by ignoring newbie attacks and outright eating them. *Nods to DF* But most of it is just annoying… The Alternate and polar opposite is much rareer indeed. The Victim. He who ALWAYS (Or trys to play along for the most part) gets hurt. He who Feels the cold, wet, stinging slap of the trout. Who is singed by the fireball, who is killed by the stab in the back. This of course does prompt some rather immediate action from either the victim himself or someone else to bring them back to life (Counter Twinkery on the part of the Victim in the form of Respawning)… sometimes. Other times it’s the actual end of the character. But we’re just ranting about bipolar opposites here, no need to get into real detail. I try to play the Victim when not attempting to Out Twink the others in the room *CoughCrinosCough* at the time… Fan plays a good Victim at times as well. Landon does realy good but sometimes over does it with the outright Death, being too Slack to actually do anything other than cease to exist. Whereas Twinks are disruptive, Victims are very good for a Story. Always willing to have their Character take a nessicary fall for the story… always good. Being a one time Sim (Trek RP) person myself I know the value of being a good victim, sometimes being the only one to have sparks fly in your face and to fall over the railing and onto your back on the bridge is good Acting. Just don’t over do it, Captains don’t like that. Too much Medbay time gets your points docked… anywho… I’ll end this now. Having, again, gotten nowhere and only spoken my mind a bit. But, that’s the point isn’t it? Maybe I’ll remember why I wrote this and add onto it later, maybe not. Chaos Chaos! WSS (; Previous Rants |
