BRIAN NELSON'S Biography

Part 2

Around the duo Brian Nelson and Wigbert a five piece band was formed: Brian Nelsons Free Space with Jan Matthieu (ex-Kandahar) on tabla, Marianne De Ryck on flute and Kosmos (later known as"'the Flemish Klaus Shulze" - 'with many cosmic/new age records to his name) on synthesizer.

This "new age avant-la-lettre" formation lead to
Nelsons first LP
'On The Trail Of The Run-
away Beast
' / Black & White 1982
with guest
musicians:

Paul De Ryck (Belgium) on drums
Sylvain Colin (France) on double bass,
Jon McCafferty (Scotland) on alto and tenor
   saxophones.
   Especially the title track and
   'Spanish Border Blues' are
   noticed by the music press.
Later Jan E Verstraeten joins in on tenor
   and soprano saxophone.

Music Festivals like Mallemunt, Gentse Feesten etc. were part of
an intensive summer tour after which Nelson returns to Scotland.

In Glasgow he sets up a new duo, this time with Jon 'Caff' McCafferty on guitar and vocals as well.
As The Notorious Bukowski Brothers they entertained many a club with acoustic rock, country,
Honky Tonk blues. In Belgium Brian adds old to new into a new CD" The Main Line" for which Caff
brings a friend Bev to play drums. Unfortunately only an EP gets released from these sessions '94.

In 1985 Nelson goes to live in Sallachy in the Scottish Highlands, with his wife and
two year old daughter. Playing gigs up there during winter, he ends up recording in
Studio West Coast in Skye, working with Scottish singer/songwriter Ann Lupton and
also Brian's Belgian guitar friend Starvin Marvin who travelled over to stay for a while.
